The ubiquitous red fox ranges throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. Its colors help camouflage it on leafy forest floors and in tall grasses. Foxes hunt at night and have excellent hearing, perhaps contributing to the impression that they are sly creatures.

History: Genetic mapping has provided fascinating insights into the wanderings and adaptations of many of the world's creatures, and the Red Fox is no exception. Although they are found throughout North American, Europe, and Asia, the North American version is actually a distinct species.
